I have the honour to confirm my
telegram of the 15th. instant stating in reply to Your
Lordship's telegram of the 9th. instant that I concurred in
the proposal that the Medical Officer appointed to fill
the vacancy caused by invaliding Dr. J. C. Thomson should
be given an initial salary of £480 without house allowance.
The salary will rise by £40 triennially to a maximum of
£720 per annum, and I propose to adopt this scale in all
future appointments to the Medical Department pending
revision of the sterling salary scheme. 89
